Mai Tai (Oakland, California)
Victor J. Bergeron claimed to have invented the Mai Tai in 1944 at his restaurant, Trader Vic’s for some friends who were visiting from Tahiti. One of those friends, Carrie Guild, tasted it and cried out: “Maita’i roa ae!” (literally “very good!”, figuratively “Out of this world! The best!”) — hence the name.

Hurricane (New Orleans, Louisiana)
The creation is credited to New Orleans tavern owner Pat O’Brien. He poured the concoction into hurricane lamp shaped glasses.

Margarita (Mexico)
One of the earliest stories is of the Margarita being invented in 1938 by Carlos “Danny” Herrera at his restaurant Rancho La Gloria.

The drink was brought to England from India by sailors and employees of the British East India Company in the early 17th century.

BLOODY MARY
The creation of the Bloody Mary is often credited to Fernand Petiot in the 1920s while a young bartender at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris.

MOJITO (Cuba)
The origin story is often disputed, however, La Bodeguita Del Medio claims to be the birthplace. Field workers created “Aguardiente de cana” (firewater of the sugar cane). The name Mojito stems from word “Mojo”, meaning “to place a spell”. Ours features Don Q Cristal Rum, simple syrup, fresh lime juice, mint, club soda.

PIÑA COLADA (San Juan, Puerto Rico)
Two bartenders from Puerto Rico won a contest for the ownership of their national drink. Ramón “Monchito” Marrero Pérez claims to have first made it at the Caribe Hilton Hotel’s Beachcomber Bar in San Juan in 1954, using Don Q Gold rum and the then newly-available coco lópez.

Blue Hawaiian (Waikiki, Hawaii)
Was invented in 1957 by Harry Lee, legendary bartender of the Hilton Hawaiian Village (formerly Kaiser Hawaiian Village). Ours is Ketel One Citroen Vodka, Captain Morgan Pineapple Rum, pineapple syrup, DeKuyper Blue Curacao Liqueur, lime juice, Reàl Cream of Coconut.
